There are no cons to disc brake upgrades IMO.

Disc brakes are better imo because...

Heat dissipates faster
Brake fade happens slower
They tend to stay drier in wet weather
Easier to work on (again - imo)

Drum brakes tend to be less expensive to manufacture and they can be used as a parking brake too.

Ill put it this way my right front drum brake falled and locked at 120 mph when i only tapped the brake and went spining into a feild. Me and car are ok. This was when i was 18 and dumb.
So ye disc upgrade and they make kits that bolt up to ur drum brake spindles.

This just cements my decision to convert to disc brakes! Do you have any specific recommendations? Diameter, slotted, etc?

Well slotted would work just fine. I was lookin a a kit from mustangs unlimited booklet. The actual kit was a ebc one that bolted to my drum brake spindles. Just the fronts so that then i didnt have to get new brake master cylinder dew to me haveing a new already

I just upgraded my 66 coupe to disk brakes. I went to a scrap yard and bought a used differential from a 1997 explorer, gave me a bullet-proof diff with all the new features. Mounting was very simple. Then I was looking to get parts off an older marquis for the front, but ended up getting these: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...arentProductId

It is nice and now I have options. Hope this helps.
