what year is the steering setup

hi!

i'm a fresh owner of a mustang 1966 coupe.
This car is rebuild with a V8 engine it used to have 6 banger.
I didn't do this myself it was the previous owner so i don't really know what is changed. i tried to compare with pictures on the internet but i could't tell.

Can somebody tell me from what car this steering setup is.

Oh, no, they were *completely* different. The entire steering setup is smaller, the springs are not rated for the v8, the shocks are different, the spindle is different, the axle is different, the driveshaft is different, and the wheels are different. Not to mention, of course, the engine, bellhousing, and transmission.

It sorta kinda *looks* like the steering is the bigger V8 stuff, but... hard to tell. The 5 lugs would give it away, as they don't interchange due to the tie rod ends alone.

You can go to many places, but Rockauto.com has a cool list of the parts, and you can compare them. Not one part is interchangeable between the I6 and the V8 for the steering linkage. Mainly the tie rods, sleeves, and idler.

And in looking at it, if the pics are right at Rockauto, that's a V8 idler arm, so it possibly kinda maybe is the V8 setup, so it may be right for that engine. And it's got the extra hole in it for a power steering setup, if you were so inclined, in the drag link. That's actually quite a valuable piece right there in the world of 65-69 Mustangs. Shame it's on a manual steering car... Be worth more still if it were a V6 one!

Drum brakes, eh? That's an upgrade you need to make happen.

Houtex is right, the steering is different between I6 and V8 cars in 65-66 as well as other parts he mentioned. They didn't become the same until 67.

Thank u for your valuable input.

I figured it's a steering linkage of a i6 power steer.
