Updating Tranny in 65 6 cylinder

Was reading an article about upgrading to a aod trans in a 65 8 cylinder car.
Can you do the same swap in a 6 cylinder? Thanks in advance, Keith

I'm not sure if the AOD 6 cyl. has the same bolt pattern as the 60's era 6 cyl. A search on the web may help. Sorry I don't know more, I'm still learning myself.
