69 Mustang

Started a new project. Picked up a '69 mustang yesterday. It needs alot of work and I will almost be doing a total restoration. The question I have is I pulled one of the valve covers off and four of the rockers are rusted with rust along the pushrods. I know this is a hit or missi question, but what are the chances that the cylinders and vlaves are still useable after getting them cleaned up?

rust is most likely from condensation but that is nowhere near a stock engine for your 69 stang .. any idea what year engine you have /

I had the same problem with a 1981 302 I was working on. It happened because of many short trips and not allowing the engine to run long enough to burn it off. I didn't have any other problems with the engine.

Not sure yet what engine this is. I have'nt had a chance to get the numbers and run them. But as soon as I can get the engine pulled, I can find all that out. I'm just hoping there's no serious damage inside. The body and interior needs much work, so I'm hoping I get a lucky break and the engine be half way decent, but I know how that goes. Thanks for the replies.

We've had pretty bad weather here for Fort Bragg, which has caused the post to be closed for the past two days. This gave me a chance to do a little work on the mustang. I was able to get the interior pulled and got a real good look at the floor. The pans are through as I suspected. They're not as bad as I initially thought, but I'm still going to replace the entire thing. My problem no is storage space! I have no place to store the doors and interior and I'm not going to pull anything else off until I can find some storage space. My garage and storage shed is full. But my question is has anyone ever used POR-15? I want to clean up the undercarriage, rearend, axles, etc. There's alot of rust and grime that I want to clean up the best I can right here in my garage without going to a professional shop.

At least it looks like someone has never attempted to repair it. On my 67 I've had more trouble removing the half a** repair job that was done.

You have a good start. From the pics, everything else looks strong.

Yeah, there's a guy here in my area that had that problem. He bought a car that was half a^% patched up and cut up. I wish I did'nt have to replace the firewall, but as you can see from the pics, that's not an option, it has to go. Paying the truck freight will probably cost about as much as the parts if I cannot find a parts source somewhere close.
