In June of '04 I had my 3speed manual removed and replaced with an automatic. In september I was driving it and when I Applied gas I heard a grinding noise comming from the tranmission. I was about 30 miles from home and I was scared to death. I put all this money in to a swap and It is crapping out on me? I thought about calling a tow truck but decided to drive it home and hope for the best. When I got home I checked the tranny fluid and turns out it was bone dry. So when I got home I filled it up. When I came home from the place where I got the tranny swaped back in June it was full. And since September I have not lost a single drop of fluid. It has been over 7 months and I have still not found out where that fluid went. There was no fluid on the garage floor or my parking space at school and at work.

So where did all the fluid go?

Just wondered if any of you experts knew something that I did not know.

Jeff

In my case it was the rear oil seal that was leaking but I didn't notice it because it leaked only when driving. Almost no leaks on the garage floor. I found it when my pan started to leak and I looked everything over.

Could be that the repair shop was at fault. First thing I thought of was they filled the torque converter but neglected to fill the trans to the proper level. Sure it would run, but at a higher rpm, there is no fluid left in the trans case because it is all spinning in the torque converter. Once you filled it to the proper level and with no apparent leaks...your back to normal. Do you hear/feel any damage to the trans? If not your lucky.

Could be wrong about the problem but doesn't make since if it was properly filled and you couldn't read any fluid on the stick and still have no apparent leaks!

When I got home from the shop that installed the tranny I checked the fluid with the car running and the stick said just a tick past full. I have talked to many, many, many people and no one can answer my question! Tranny sounds fine. No noises at all. I am very lucky!
