Assuming that this car's exterior will keep at least some red, I think it is important to keep some on the interior. That said, the wall-to-wall porno red needs to go. I'm thinking go with a custom charcoal interior with red accents. Red inserts in the modern racing seats, red door panels on a charcoal door, that sort of thing.

Seats $650 + $350 for custom apolstry
This style, custom covered, fill in the harness cut-outs and have latemodel 3 point retractable belts.

Full Autometer instrumentation with custom charcoal guage faces. Approximately $500. As I am on the build team, I can do the custom faces for free.

No Woodgrain! Brushed aluminum inserts in the dash and door panels.

Remove the backseat altogether. There's got to be a better use of that space.

And it needs a rollbar with 5 point harnesses.

Any other options besides brushed aluminum? Other materials? Dare I say tweed?

I'll leave audio to those who care!

Light Charcoal interior with burgndy accents, good seats - maybe even mimic the 85 GT with red piping. 69/70 padded rollbar.

Aftermarket instruments with carbon fiber background.

Saleen speedster-style interior cover, but blend it better with the body lines than the Ronster though.... You guys can put the audio/video where the rear seat WAS.

why not just use 85-86 gt buckets and cover the back seat to match or better yet "build" it to match so it has the same kind of look as the front seats and not just a flat seat in the rear but do it in a dark charcoal so we can use blakes custom gauage faces. cover the 69 style deluxe door panels with gray leather and instead of the stock wood grain inserts do a red anodized brushed aluminum insert and carry that theme through the rest of the interior as well, i'm thinking use the JME guage cluster in it as well again with the red anodized brushed aluminum. iether that or use that style of bezel but with red dakota digital guages hey by the way am i on the build team this week. there is a lot of info missing from all of the threads.

Anyone have any thoughts on a way to get the top to collapse lower into the top boot area? If we can get it down more the speedster cover will have a greater chance of looking good.

Some more inspiration

Maybe do outside bolsters in Charcoal with Red or Burgundy inserts, then combine the two for the door panels.

Stroked,
That helps alot. Because you can probably give us a cost idea for having the rear seat done to match, and the door panels etc. What does that type of work cost?

Matching vinyl Front, Rear Seats with coordinated Door Panels would run around $1500.00 and more like $2k for leather

Corbeau has some nicer seats than those we could choose. Any other ideas?

What does the JME gauge setup cost?

I would suggest we try and tone down the interior by limiting the colors. Maybe use a charcoal or a little lighter grey. To match the top etc. Keep it really subtle. I have these seats in my 'vert and they would be cool to recover without the headrests (so the 'vert bodyline is not affected when the top is down):

interior: 85-86 gt buckets with custom 2 tone medium gray and charcoal leather upholstery with red piping with back seats "built" to match style of front (~$12-1500), 69 deluxe door panels covered in charcoal leather (~$800-1000) with custom red anodized brushed aluminum inserts (should be just the cost of anodizing woodgrain inserts can be re-used without the woodgrain), jme guage cluster with autometer carbon fiber guages (~$1300) and red anodized brush aluminum trim to match door panels same style for passenger side dash piece, radio bezel and console inserts. console mount e-brake ( Bob, how much did your lokar kit run?).

Jay, are we gonna use any of my ideas on this build? i really like the idea of the red anodized trim pieces.

I thought I worked stuff you said in? I don't know if we are even going red for the exterior, that would change the annodized right? Do you have an example of the look I could see? Heck even a shot of the door panel that you would replace the woodgrain on...

I'd prefer to do a custom panel in leather to flow with the other upgrades, but I just can't imagine it enough (you know the car year much more than I here).

You're really pushing those '85/86 seats I've sat in those and I don't remember thinking that highly of 'em

i'll find a pic of the door panels. i've never seen anyone replace the woodgrain with anodized brushed aluminum, that's why i thought it would be cool. BTW, i wasn't trying to sound female dogy or anything i was just wondering, i really didn't see much that applied except for the guage panel. the pics of the seats in stroked66's car are the same as the 85-86 gt seats except for the headrests pretty much and i think the 85-86 seats have more lumbar support. i ahve 86 gt buckets in my car and i love them, if i remember right they were actually made by flofit or recaro, but i think it was flofit.

here is a link to and ebay auction for the door panels. maybe someone could do a photochop of these in charcoal gray with a red anodized looking insert?
