ok...I did some reseach and it seems that all 65 shelby ID #s starts with SFM 5S..(or R)...this one just stops at 5S. then the other manufacters number is what the seller supplies...I dont know...he claims to have a build sheet too?

What if a replacement blank Shelby VIN plate was put on the body years ago. Could have been a real Shelby was totalled and the parts moved to this chassis. I was referring earlier to the stock VIN 5R09K_ _ _ _ _ _ would have to be on the chassis. The VIN in the auction is 5T09A, but that could be that the seller was just looking at the left apron, and it could have been changed. The Borg Warner T-10 laying in the Stang is correct for a Shelby. Who's got some free air miles built up to go verify this thing? Better hurry and carry a Shelby registry with you, if it's real or has an unaccounted for # it's probably worth about $50 K like it sits! kennyg

my vin on my 65 is 5t09t
if it helps at all.
i sent the guy an email asking for more pics and info.
he replied with
"if i could verify this was a real shelby i would be asking a lot more for it"
didnt send any more pics or anything. sounded kinda rude to me.

i have a suspicion its not real. if i had the car i would be going over every plate and calling everyone to try to validate it. its worth a ton if its real and he just wants to get rid of it.

the only thing on the plate that shows is 5S, probably because the other numbers are stamped, not printed and the photo is crappy so i cant tell if there is anything else printed on it.

From the pictures, that looks like a reproduction Shelby VIN plate. It is not stamped out with the Shelby number. Also, all Shelby GT-350's were K code (4 barrel Hi Po V-8) cars. This is a A code (4 barrel V-8) car per the vin he has supplied. I think this car is an old clone that has been out in the weather for awhile rotting away.

yup. i thought it was fake. just too good to be true. too bad really.
it would still make a nice resto car. getting harder to find 65's that had v8's original in them.
even mine was a 200.
