Lucky I didn't have a FIRE on my '66 convertible

Charged up the battery and started my '66 convertible today for the first time in over 3 months. Wanted to move it outside so I could get in out of the heat and sun while working on another project. Charged the battery for about 30 minutes and got in to start it up. Had to turn it over several times to get the fuel pumped up. It started and I revved it a couple of times for good measure. LOL Smelled fuel and got out to see why, HOLY COW, fuel was spewwing from the short supply hose at the carb. Quickly I shut it off. Man I was lucky I didn't have a fire. I do have good fuel pressure though. New words of wisdom 'carefully check out hoses and connections especially on projects that have been sitting and you may have gotten out of touch with!' kennyg

Lucky.

I had a similar thing happen to me, but mine was more my fault. I installed a new in-line glass fuel filter and I guess I overtightened it a little to much and the glass cracked ever so slightly so when I started the car I had fuel spraying all over the top end of my motor. It definetly got my heart pumping.

Man I bet it got your heart beating, you've got a really nice Stang. Mine's still in the bodywork stage but it still would have not been good if it caught fire. We should all keep a fire extenguisher in our Mustangs and on the wall of our shops in an easy to get to location. While they are messy that's better than burning up all your hard work. Had a club member that was working on his '65 Fastback MCA award winner, was shining an old cage style work light under the car to check for leaks and gas dripped on the bulb. He instantly had an underhood fire that he fortunately got put out before it spread to the rest of his Mustang, but had to redo his engine and compartment detail. He never mentioned it, but I'll bet his shorts needed cleaning too! kennyg
