Possible tranny change ideas?

Ok so when I got my '66 it had the original shifter and c4. It sucked and would not go into gear properly, it was just a mess. So I switched it with a hurst ratchet shifter. Its fun only for racing and that's not happening anymore because my transmission is about shot. Where to go from here? I want a manual transmission, but I'm in college right now so $ is limited. Rebuild? Replace?

What is your budget for this? That will really determine what you can actually do.

A T5 manual would be a nice swap, but it would probably cost about $1k if not more.

If you can scrounge up some cash, get the original C-4 rebuilt. You can upgrade it a little with a shift improver kit. Staying with the C-4 will save alot of money over doing a manual conversion. Try not to tear it up so it will last until you get out of college and find a job, then you can buy you a daily driver and build the Stang of your dreams!

Pretty much what I am doing now. Keeping the 03 after college as my DD and then buying me another classic to restore to my liking.

Yea that's the plan! I don't get to drive it much now since its back at home, but I know dad is taking it easy on it. I figure if it has lasted all this time it will be able to hang in there for a few more years.
