I am in the process of installing my AOD. Along the way I decided it would be nice to have a better shifter on it since I tend to run it through the gears myself and I now have a manual/auto valvebody option. So I picked up a Lokar 6" (not the 12" shifting above the dash model) and installed it.
The dilemna I face now is integrating the new shifter with the stock '67 auto console (that I intend to keep). The new shifter takes up the area where the stock console guts would fit around the shifter handle so I have to abandon those completely.
Here are the pics (before I get into what I'm think right now):
I'm considering getting some uncut brushed aluminum dash material and completely covering the top of the console and only opening it up for the shifter. Then I will get a square boot base to fasten the boot down.

* How would you integrate the front edge of this new plate with the 'upturn' area of the console (just udner the sliding door)? Can you make this seamless?
* I like the idea, but you *know* Cloney will suggest a "Cobra" - print shifter boot to top it off
