OK here's the deal, I got in my Shelby deck lid and end caps finally but as I fit them I find severe differences from stock. I could swear that I have seen both coupes and verts with the Shelby duck tail fiberglass added to them while retaining the stock tail panel and lights. Yet these pictures tell quite a different story, like I either MUST use the Shelby tail panel also or I have to live with giant rat holes from the under side and against the panel body. Or I guess have them custom filled in.

CAN ANYONE PROVIDE ME WITH SOME EXPERIENCE!??!?!?!?!??!?!?

Even though the pics are lousy, a good reference to follow is the Comp Cam's car. They are using the same shelby piece I am with the stock panel and lights yet there's seems to fit right up to the body.

Of course, I haven't faced this specific issue, but knowing what is involved in fitting fiberglass, yes, I think you'll have to have it "worked" to fit. I see no reason why it can't be done, it'll just take some work.

Yeah I agree, it's a pretty fricken huge gap though, and contoured no less. Makes David Letterman look like he wore braces as a kid.

LOL!

That's the good thing about 'glass. It's easy to add more material, and all you do is sand until if fits right. If you sand too much, add some more and get to sanding some more.

I had the same trouble with my 70 convertible. It wasn't quit as bad because of the flatter tail light panel but it would have taken the same amount of work to fix it. I didn't have time to do it. I talked more about it here.

OK, thanks Sharp, I feel a little better about it at least now. So any recommendations for what fiberglass materials to use? I don't have any real hands on experience with the stuff but I have done tons of clay modeling and paper mache type things and simillar processes over the years so I am not to concerned about it tackling it. Would I just use the basic stuff you find at say autozone? I plan to use a copycat I have for woodworking to make a template for an exact fitting piece.

autozone stuff should be fine, Make sure you use the matting for strength.
