I recall hearing in a brochure that a 427/auto was an option on 68 Shelbys. I have also seen a blue 68 Shelby with a 427 and an auto. Better than new, musta cost tens of thousands to restore. Looked stock, sounded stock.

I bet it was real.

Yeah, I've heard of it. He personally took it to 170 at Goodyear's test track. Either that thing had really tall gears/tires, or it could rev past 7 grand...

Also had more more attractive stripes than standard Shelby GTs, IMO.

My point is, the 427 was technically an option, and unless you were there when they bolted in the only one, don't go preachign about how knowledgable about Mustangs you are.

Oh, my other point is, THAT WAS ONE SWEET RIDE!

you sound like on of those guys that would say "oh yea you know back then i had ford sell me a pinto with a 429 boss"
belive me it dident happen , as far as knowledge goes, lets just say i have extensive knowlege of these cars that started with my father ( a ford engineer 1958-1979 ) and yes i know of the avail. of the 427 , anybody could walk into ford spend about 2500 dollars and buy it from the service deparment, but i could have went to dodge and paid about 700 more than that and bought a hemi over the counter, and if i put it in my mustang it still dosent make it a factory production, 2 facts remain ALL and i repeat ALL 1967 gt 500 shelbys where built by FORD as 390 cars , shelby made them what he did.
and point 2 prototype cars where never considerd production cars, thats why nascar had the 500 car built rule to race a powerplant.
oh i personally have in my mustang stable 17 cars, how about you?

Geez, sorry.

I ain;t old enough to drive; nor rich enough to owhn a nice Mustang. However, my close relative (lives next door, too) has a gray '02 6 coupe. 12K miles after 5 years of road time.

If it was my car, I'd hot rod the hell outta it. If I can come up with the cash, mebbe she'll let me work some magic on it. That would be awesome.

ok jack i dident know you where another kid, look ill tell you a story but first yes that 427 could spin more than 7,000 rpm with cross bolted mains and forged steal crank and cap screw rod bolts it was tough!
and the story, when i was 16 in school my first car was 1967 gta 390 convertable, my dad had me wrenching on that car with him since i was 12 and i by far knew ten times more about motors and mustangs than any of my high school friends , the auto shop teacher made me his teachers aid , my point is find somone with this type of car to help, even if its just cleaning up his mess it will help you learn about these cars at a much faster rate than listening to the kids here tell storys that arent event half true, good luck!
