Just replaced my Holley electric fuel pump with a mechanical edlebrock. It went in smoothly and I'm sure it's resting on the cam but for the life of me I can't get my baby to start back up again. Tried pouring little bits of gas at a time into the carb and it's fires only for the amount of gas I pour in. How can I prime my fuel lines so I have enough vacuum for the mechanical to take over?

 

the carb should have been full when you made the swap .. it would have held plenty enuff gas for the mechanical pump to take over .. you must have a problem .. did you put the electric pump on to begin with .. there may not be a pump excentric bolted to the cam .. mechanical fuel pumps can be very difficult to install unless you quite good at it .. it`s easy to miss the pump cam excentric ...

 

I'd start simpler in the thought process. Check to make sure the carb has fuel in the bowl. Pouring gas in can get you started but having the bowl full will help keep the engine running while the pump starts to do it's job.
Also take the fuel line off the carb and place it in a container of some sort. Then have somebody else turn the engine over. This gives you the ability to see if fuel is truly being pumped.

I think the eccentric is made into the cam on small blocks.

Why did you go backwards and revert back to a mechanical?
