Mach 1 deluxe interior clock fix

1970 mach 1. I am converting my clock to quartz. i am having trouble removing the deluxe interior panel, the dash pad blocks getting to it. is there a special way of removing this panel. Anyone have any tips?

I used to own a '70 Mach (w/o ac) and have removed the clock from the dash panel without disassembling the dash/clock panel. You'll need to remove the plastic glove box from the glove box door & the gb door limiting cable to gain access from underneath.

Reach up behind the clock, unplug the power lead & remove the lights (they twist 1/4 turn). IIRC, you'll need a 5/16 (or 1/4) socket to remove the three mounting screws.

This may not work if your car has ac. Good luck!

If you still can't get to the clock from underneath I don't think you'll have any choice but to remove the dash pad (very carefully). In addition to the six clock panel screws you can get to (three each into the pad & also into the metal part of dash), there is a mounting "ear" on either side of the panel that can only be accessed from the back side of the panel.

Most of the time these tabs were broken or the screws were not reused if the dash had been previously disassembled, but they could still be intact.
