as far as I know, I should still have the stock 2.80s in my rear end unless someone switched them in the 35 years before I bought it...anyway...I think I'm going to switch to 3:55s and I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience in this...

 

I have heard that it is not an easy job and to leave it to a professional.

bummer...thats not what I wanted to hear...Labor cost is what breaks the back most of my mod ideas....humph!

 

you probably have an 8 inch rear at minimum or maybe a nine inch .. just buy a good used " punkin " with the gears already installed .. lots of ford trucks had gears form 2;75 all the way to 3;55 .. setting up new gears does require a few special tools and some knowledge ..

 

I spoke to my uncle about it, and he said to not even try it. He said that you have to taethe thid embr out of the front of the housng and all that jazz...which I am not up for..he said it would be worth it pay for 2 hours of labor cost for a profssional to do it.

It is not that hard. On the other hand, if you have a good rear end shop in town, let them do it.

 

so I did a speedometer check today...Its right on. So...Either I still have the 2:80s....or if they changed them, they re'calibrated the Speedo...my question now...if I change the gears, how do I recallibrate the speedo? I would assume a new speedo gear, but I cant find any.

 

ok...so for anyone that cares....if you change rearend gears, all you have to do tell your gear ratio and tire size to CJPony Parts, and they will hook you up with the correct speedo gear.

 

Did you ever find out what you have in there?
