How is a 67' unique?
#1
I was wondering what changed on Mustangs from 66' to 67'. I was told that the body was slightly larger, but thats all I have learned.
Any information would be appreciated, I'm trying to make the most educated decision here before buying a mustang that I plan on keeping till either it's totalled I am heh
Thanks again,
-Matt

plus you could now get a 302 or 390 V8....
in 66 and prior i think you could only get the 260/289 V8s..
also if you got a GT and it had an auto it was designated as a GTA, as opposed to a GT
and then theres the whole "bigger" thing.... and i supose that it

If you want to get really specific: The 67's were wider in order to fit big block engines in. The taillights are different too, in 66, they were on the outside but in 67, the back panel has a curve to it and only the trim is on the outside. In 67, there are little mock vents next to the doors and the guage cluster is different. The engine options were the straight 6, the 289, and 390 (and 428 in the Shelbys). The 302 wasn't around until the 68 models. In my opinion, the 67 Mustang is my favorite model year.

The '67 grille is huge, it has kinda like vented side scoops, tail lights are different, I think they ride a little higher too. The interior is way different. the dash is a lot more busy with more stuff on it, guages are similar to the '05, and the seats have diffenert patten of aphostry.

Visit one of the Mustang parts suppliers and purchase the Mustang Recognition Guide (about $15.00+/-) to learn everything you wanted to know about the '66, '67 or any other early Mustang. I bought one in 1990 when I bought my first Mustang ('65 coupe) and have used it regularly through work on my former '69 fastback and the '67 coupe I'm now restoring.
Good luck, Chris

Whoa, that answered every one of my questions. Thanks a lot everyone who responded, I appreciate it a lot.
Think I'll be going and getting that book too. More literature the more knowledge I'll have when making the purchase and be able to get exactly what I want.
Thanks again,

Another one that is a good read is the "Illustrated Mustang Buyers guide". You can get that anywhere. I did about a years worth of research on the various models before deciding which one to invest in, I only bought a couple of the better books thoughfor eternal reference. I used to spend every other afternoon in Barnes and Noble eating my lunch and reading for free to find the best books as there is alot of them to weed thru and several are crap and have wrong info.
One side of the coin that no one has mentioned but it may factor in if you are on a budget is that the older the Stang is the cheaper the parts are and the more they reproduce, in general anyway. So a 65'66 model is by far cheaper to restore than any other and a 71-73 is the most difficult.

There are hundreds of things different between 66&67s. 67&68s shared a great deal, sorta like 65&66s did. But the 67 was an entirely new chassis not a new body on a Falcon. It was longer wider and taller and that doesn't even begin talking about details.
Can someone sho me the evidence that the 302 came out in the 67 model year? The 302 was introduced in the 68 model year according to everything I've ever read. In fact some early 68s came with the 2V289s.

If I can recall the specifics (getting more doubtful each year due to what is apparently early alzheimers...LOL)....
In the whole 68 model year all 4V small blocks were 302s, the K-code was not sold, and some of the early 2Vs were 289s until the supply was exhausted then all small block V8s were 302s. The big engine news for 68 was the introduction of the 428 Cobra Jet, it came out technically in time for the Winternationals (which the Tasca Fords dominated) but was available in showrooms shortly after that.
But in 67 the V8 options were:
C = 2V-289@210hp
A = 4V-289@225hp
K = hipo-289@271hp
S = 390 (Thunderbird Special) @ 325hp
