Help! New manifold interfers with distributor

I just bought a new Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold for my 71 351W and I had to turn the distributor counter clockwise about an inch so the manifold would fit because the clip was getting in the way, obviously now I can't turn the distributor back to it's original spot and the car won't idle right. What can I do to fix this? I'm almost positive that I'll have to buy a new distributor (taller) I'm just looking for advice,

relocate the plug wires in the same direction then set the timing where it will run or pull the distributor and back it up a tooth or so ...
