help finding parts for 66

Hey guys,

I have a friend who wants to get a 65-66 stang and she has a really good idea of what she wants it to look like.

She doesn't want a fast car, so an I6 is just fine. If any performance mods it will just be exhaust, so nothing too major performance wise. She's definitely upgrading those brakes though, The last thing i want is my best friend careening around in a car as unsafe or less safe than my II lol.

There's a part I just cant find. I need a GT350 valence with integrated chin spoiler. she saw it on this car

she wants that look on hers. I can find that scoop just fine, as well as the car itself, I just cant locate that valence. Thanks in advance for your help guys.

wow...that looks a LOT like my car.....not a big fan of the integrated spoiler...I think that angle is too shallow......plus there is like a space at the seam that looks bad I think.

I think that might have been a cheaper part than the actual ronster.

Do you have any pics of your car I could show her? She would probably fall in love with it

I'm essentially "in charge" of the build since I am the token "mustang guy" around here. If I need any help from all you with the first mustang I'll be sure to bug you guys to no end I promise to make sure this car, unlike the work done o my II the first few times, is done completely right from the get go. More worried about her safety in her car than I was for my safety in my car lol

She said she never admitted liking mustangs bec she thought it was "my thing" and didnt want to infringe lol. how nuts is that? I was preventing myself from being that guy that always says "buy this bec i have one"

Funny how it all works out in the end

here's a couple...I have a stock front valance with a chin spoiler, but I like it cause I have my vanity plate on the front....If I were to decide to screw the plate (since its not real nor manditory to have one) I would go for the Shelby fibergalss piece with no spoiler....but I would then need to rig a lower grille out of a doner '65 honeycomb cause I dont do billett.

Good luck on the build, let us see some photos along the way. I too am working on a 66 with a 6, check the cowls for leaks, big thorn in my side right now tracking down leaks...
As for the 6 there are lots of way to soup it up, I have the headers for dual exhaust and just installed and electronic ignition with platinum plugs.. see below link for lots of 6 cyl build up ideas.

I definitely plan to poke around, and probably join up, at fordsix. I've lurked in the past, just bec theres some cool stuff over there. Shes not too concerned with performance. If it can keep up with her 03 VW bug vert, its good enough. Thats why doing just the exhaust should be enough.

Pics will come when she gets a car. Its going to be a few months, but we're gonna start lookin. We'll see how it goes

I just put on a DUI electronic ignition, starts up real easy now, not a lot of cranking.
wanted to do the new alum head and 4bbl then looking into it I felt I needed to do a total rebuild and nixed that due to the $$$. Maybe sometime later.

I'll definitely look into that then. I'll be taking care of the car for her next fall while shes in London, so I'll be sure to fix it up when and where i can then, and over summer.

Yep, if its a 200 cid with the 7 main bearings, you got some potential! The biggest restriction in the Ford inline 'small' six lies in its integral 'log' intake/head.
Just to help give you ideas- here's my setup- I myself run the Pertronix Ignitor, paired with the Flamethrower coil and also have an easy time starting up. As far as exhaust goes, you can go with headers (single or dual outlet) or like myself, just a bigger manifold. I have a 66 head and run a 78 exhaust manifold.
Other options include using an adaptor for a 2 bbl carb. or even changing the intake/head to the 'bigger' logs (78+) or if you really have a budget, the newly made aluminum heads with removable intakes. Then there are the tripower setups...
Good luck with the project!

I have a 200 6cyl in my 83 mercury zephyr. I wonder if it is the same basic engine. I was debating on what I could do to make about 30 more horsepower to make the car a little safer for interstate use since it is so under powered. I would swap but it only has 35,000 actual and works great and with the price of fuel, I want all the mpg I can get as I actually use this car daily for summer use. In fact I use it to buy timber during nice months and if I dont have to go off road.

Simply, yes, basically the same engine, however you'll obviously have more emissions-related equipment than an earlier 200. Not to mention the engine will be tuned a bit differently to also curb emissions versus an early 6. In fact there are some members at fordsix that have fairmonts/zephyrs too.

I tried to join the fordsix forum and for some reason it doesnt let me in. SHam eto, I was kind of interested in making a bit more power out of my 83 zephyr 200.

Yeah, i think Mike (AZCoupe) handles that over there. Unfortunately too many "people" were joining, trying to sell us stuff we didnt want or need. A little bit of patience and we look forward to having you on over there!
