GT Clone
Ok I have a 66 stang i've been working on for three years and slowly making it a GT Clone. For the past three years I have been ridaculed at every car show for it not being a real GT. Mainly because I didn't have all the GT parts on it. Well the time for revenge is at hand.
I am now ordering my new interior, fog lights, and Gt gas cap. The new interior is going to be Maroon and white instead of the orginal parchment. You are not going to tell if it's a true GT unless you look at the VIN#.
I have always wanted a 66 GT and I made me one. Here is a pic of the car in the state it's in now except the quarters are smooth and the scoupe on the hood is open and it now has RAM AIR. Let me know what you think of it now and when I post the new pics when I'm finished.
By the way I'll never say it's true GT like some people do I just made a car I always dreamed of.

Yep not for sell anymore. It's a love hate relationship I love it and it hates me. I just didn't have the heart to sell her after all we have been through
. Just going to finish her and let the good times roll. :drive:
Too think was going to sell her to get a new one. I love the new ones but there is something about driving down the street and everyone stoping to look as if it's a parade. Also the fact I can work on it.
I think at one point time you get frustated
and want to kick the thing out the door but one clear day happens and you take it for a ride and you fall in love all over again.

I remember when I test drove a dude's red on red 1965 GT (about a year ago, he lived in West Ashley, maybe you remember the one I'm talking about), and to really drive it more than a couple of miles I took it up to one of the nearby gas stations and got no less than three people asking me how much I wanted for it before I left the station. Inside, the dude at the counter just kept telling me over and over how nice it was.
I think I'll like owning a classic in about two weeks.

If you want to build a clone, go ahead, there's nothing wrong with that - but even at shows you should advertise it that way. Don't put GT on the registration without "clone", or just put 66 Mustang. From your pictures, it is obviously not a GT (vent trim, rocker panel trim, hood scoop) and (unfortunately) people will point it out, some even rudely.
Deluxe "pony" interiors, two-tone upholstery, consoles - those are popular, but were options even on GTs.
There are alot of subtle things that make a car a GT. ALL GTs had dual-exhaust, HD front sway-bars, quick ratio steering gear boxes, deleted rocker panel trim, etc. You can visit this website to see a list:

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.
This is a little dated picture. Here is a shot of the rear. I have a GT valence with the duel trumpets. The quarter trims have been deleted and are smoothed since this pic. I have plans to put front disk brakes and a bigger sway bar on it sooner or later. As for the gear box that will have to come much later.
My digital camera is broke
so I'll post more current pics when I'm done with the interior and fog light upgrade and get a new camera B) .

Alos here is a pic of the orginal parchment pony interior. As you can see I have alot of work to do.
I'm also going to replace the aftermarket crappy tac on the sterring colum with a rally pak as soon as I win the lottery
. Man those things are expinsive.

Dude, That is one sweet pony. Wether it's a GT or not, people have to respect that you have alot of work into something you love I get upset at people at shows who pick cars apart for what they are or arent. Nobody can say that that car is not awesome.
Thanks Scorch for the info thats going to be my new bible for the GT Clone resturation.
I have a question I sometime see GT mustangs at shows with amber fog lamps. Was this a aftermarket thing or did they come on the car? Any who I like the way they look I'm just wondering if it did really come on the car in 65 and 66.
Well the parts are coming in the mail I will post the updated pic when I'm done. Thanks guys.
