a tiny hot wheels car for the price of a real car???? i don't care how rare it is, I would rather have the real thing!

Makes me want to go thru my old toys I had as a kid.

 

I was a little bit of a strange kid growing up. I loved cars and had lots of Hotwheels. I would not play with them outside because that would get them dirty. I keep the cars through my teenage years(est ) ,about eighty(80) total. The cars stayed in the basement for years. I went out of state for college. After college i came home got a job and bought a house. I started moving my things and found out that my mom sold my cars in a yard sale for $10. she told me she knew who bought them.....maybe just maybe............i called the answer was NO ...He had sold them to a collector for $320!! :angry: :cry: :bang:


Oh well, I still love my mom!

I can relate to Mom selling your stuff. My mom sold a whole shoe box full of trading cards I had when I was little, I think she got a couple buck for them, they are probably worth a lot by now.

As for the Hot Wheels, that's just insane!

Those Hot Wheels collectors are pretty wacky. Kmart has the Hot wheel Collector events every now and then. I took my sons to one and when the employee for kmart brought out the boxes, people were knock each over over to get a box. My 11 year old had one and this guy grabbed it right out of his hands. I wanted to knock the guy out. I decided it wasn't really worth it, we're not really collectors we just wanted to see if we could get any of the cool cars, and we did get some. We will probably go again just for the fun of it and to watch the nuts.

A prototype Spectraflame Pink over Chrome VW "Beach Bomb" with rear-loading surfboards has traded hands for over $65K.

These "paint over chrome" were really rare, especially for the Mustang, which was one of the first to be phased out of the initial Hot Wheels line up. The open hood scoops are another rare selling point.

The fact that this was a salesman prototype and not an "out of the blister" car does, in fact, make this car worth the bling that the Hot Wheels Collectors are willing to throw at it.

Way out of my price range, though.

 

i had this car's twin but as a cougar, bad kitty i think they called it. got it taken away at school one day, i think i was in 5th grade.

i can relate to the parents getting rid of stuff. when i had my 70 cougar i took the PERFECT rim blow wheel off and replaced it with a grant GT and i carefully hung the PERFECT rim blow wheel on the garage wall. i went out of town for a few days to visit some friends only to find no more rim blow wheel. my dad had cleaned the garage and throwm it out. i'm still mad about that, but i don't hold a grudge.
