Hello,

I have an oddball 69 Fastback. I have swapped in a 351 in of place of the 302, but it will not mate correctly with my C4 3 speed.

The 351 is out of a later model van, mid-eighties I believe. The flywheel that it came with was too large in diameter to fit inside the bellhousing of my C4, so I used a 302 flexplate, but even though it bolted up correctly and the flexplate also bolted up correcxtly to the 351 and everything lined up correctly when bolting the C4 to the motor. I had a clearance problem with the studs on the converter coming to far past the flexplate. The balance on the flywheel was also having clearance problems.

I later found out in addition to the fitament problem, a 351 usues 28.2 ozs of unbalance while the 81 and up 302 use 50 of unbalance.

The flexplate from the junkyard 302 I got the flexplate from must be 81 or newer since it has the 50 oz unbalance.

My question is what flexplate do I need to make this work. I have gone to my local parts stores and can't find a flexplate that has the right diameter(so it will fit inside the c4 bellhousing and accomadate my starter) the right bolt pattern, it will bolt up to the the 351 while still lining up to the Torque C.) And the same time I need it to have the correct offset, so the converter bolts and balnace weight clear.

The 302 flexplate has the right, diameter, bolt pattern, TC alignment, but the offset is not correct.
Thank you for any info that may be helpful.

Which 302 Flywheel works but has the wrong offset???? I would think you could just use the one off the 69 302.... or did you have a late model 302 in there? The early 302's are 28 oz/in. if the late model 302 10.5" 157 tooth flywheel works but just is the wrong balance have it rebalanced to 28 oz/in.... but I would think the early 302 flywheel 10.5" BC 157tooth flywheel would bolt to the back of the 351 with no problems, what is the clearance issue? where is it hitting?
