Engine swap

I currently have the straight 6 200cbi engine in my 65 mustang. What is a good sized engine to swap out to?

What do you want out of your engine because if its fuel efficiency then stay with your 6. If you're looking to cruise but have some power then 289 & the 302 aren't bad but then you can always swap your 6 out with the 351, just remember if this is a daily driver that any one of those 3 engines will swallow your gas so be prepared

If she's all or mostly "Original", I wouldn't do it. if not, a 260 or 289 will fit right in with out any major revisions and cutting.

You will need to replace the motor mounts, though.

Not to sure how much of it is actually original. I know it's not numbers matching though. I've been told a few times if its not numbers matching I might as well put a 302 or a 350 in it.

Or maybe is there a way to just beef up my 200cbi engine?

My carburetor went and the guy at O Reilly's said I'd be better off upgrading the engine, said itd be worth more too

I do want it to be a daily driver, so I don't want to kill the gas mileage too bad, but I'd also like to take it to shows when it's finished.

289,302 and 351 are all good engines for you then. 289 and 302 have a lot of interchangeable parts so that's a benefit but 351 is a good solid engine too. Just remember the deck height changed when u move up to a 351
