Thinking about buying some GT40 heads for my 289...
I realize their is a 10cc difference in the combustion chamber which will drop my C/R a point but I think the higher flowing heads along with a larger cam (Comp 268H) should make up the difference and really wake up the motor. I might also look into getting the heads decked some to get the cc's down
What heads are all of you running? Cam? Suggestions?
289 + .03"
stock rebuild 25k ago
Mild Cam Dynamics cam
Edelbrock 600cfm and intake manifold
Hooker headers and H pipe
TCI tranny and stall

old GT40s? The Ps? Newer GT40s? Iron or alum? There are a lot of "GT40s" out there....
They are a good upgrade over stock in any variety, IMO, plus they are cheap since GT40s have 'jumped the shark', so to speak (ie, not the greatest thing out there). Dont know what your stall is or how you drive, so Id call the cam company of your choice and let them recommend a grind, they all have helplines. Thats what they supposedly know how to do.

It depends on your cam, exhaust setup, intake CFM, what octane, etc. Lots of head options out there. My car, and this is only my preference, is using Edlebrock Performer,Carb, Cam, Intake with 1969 4V heads and 289Hipo manifolds.

If your looking for the best factory windsor heads, then yeah Gt40s are a good cheap deal.
I hear that altering the factory valve seat angles robs you of some low lift flow (at least the P heads)
I have a set of P heads going on a 302, it is using some undercut stainless valves in the stock valve size, and other than springs matched to the cam and a conversion to an adjustable valvetrain that is it. I didn't see a need to go crazy with them. Especially when you factor in the costs of porting, etc.
