Last night LMan and I were pondering the possibilities of all the projects I have in my garage. One thing sticks in my mind.

I started considering selling my 66 vert and building the 64.5 vert as a showcar. I had always rejected that idea because my 66 vert is a V8 car with AC, PS, disc brakes, etc., and is just a lot nicer to drive than the basemodel I6 64.5. But now that I have the Foxbody, driving the vintage car becomes less important.

The 64.5 is such a perfect candidate for concours restoration. I was noticing last night that it even still has original Ford tierod ends without zert grease fittings. And it has all the funky 64.5 parts that make them different.

So would I be crazy to sell my finished 66 Emberglo car and start over with a 6 cylinder 4 speed project?

Sell this and keep this?

Yes, you'd be crazy!
But, I've seen (and done) crazier things! Take a long drive in Coppertone this weekend, and see if you can part with it after that. That's usually enough to change my mind....
Either that, or merely mentioning to SWMBO that I'm ready to start another car!

Going down to a 170ci even in a concours showcar would probably not be the best thing. There's a time when concours showcars become fun cars and you're gonna give up a lot of fun by dropping down to the 170.

Sell the pair and you could pull something new in that can satisfy everything. That's if you really want to sell...

That's not a bad idea right there. What is your experience with concourse-restored showing? Are you going to get as much joy out of the show and the judging as you are out of the occasional drives in the 66?

Good point, Blake. Mber, in your decision don't forget the sheer joy of sitting in a lawn chair next to your car, talking to other chalk-markers about why their 'vert top is NEVER lowered.....

Seems to me that a 170ci can sit there and do that every bit as well as a 289. Especially a 2-bbl 289

You'd definately be crazy IMO. Think about this though, which would bring you more pleasure? If the show thing is what you want, then by all means, do it, but I think you'll regret going down to a 6 from the 289.

Are you out of your darn mind????????? :notnice:

Why not just sell the 64.5 to a concours lover and put the money into Smarty Jones?

Or I'll trade you nice 03 F150 for Coppertone.

I hope that was a typo and you meant to say 04 F-350 4x4 Crew Cab Powerstroke Diesel. :R:

I know how easy it is to mistype when you're going fast.

Did you take lessons from the Sykes' school of car pricing?

Well, since the 64.5 is so well preserved, it shouldn't take more than a 3 day weekend to put all new brakes componenets on it and get the carb and other drivetrain issues tweaked. Then spend some time on the road getting to know the old girl. And then you can make a semi rational decision.
