Carb HELP

My son just got a 1966 mustang coupe with a 302 in it.

I have NO knowledge of mechanics. The car has needed a lot of TLC and we are learning.....

The car didn't want to stay running at idle, and leaked a little from the pump, we bought a gasket kit, and watched A LOT of you tube video's. We replaced the gaskets and reinstalled it. we primed it and IT LIVES!!!!! BUT the next day the bowl was empty and we had to re prime it again and so on and so on....

we found that the screws in the bottom where a little loose and we fixed it.

BUT it still won't start with out being primed. the bowl looks like it keeps fuel in it but it still won't start the FIRST time with out being primed. once it gets warmed up and has runs a little while you can start it really easy

PLEASE HELP US... we don't know what to do

Sounds like a choke issue. Do the butterflies close completely?

Welcome to the forums. Also if you are not used to older carbureted cars, it also sounds like, well, an older carbureted car. Keeping them starting easy and running smoothly is art as much as it is science!

We replaced a leaking fuel pump on a 71 mustang with the 302 at work once. Fixed that leak but it turned out it was also leaking internally in the carb. Find a rebuild kit and rebuild the carb or find someone that still rebuilds them and it should start up a lot easier

I'm with dcynaco, check your choke operation and adjustment before you start tearing things apart again.
