Another problem arises hard to start

O my 66 289 2bl stang starts cold alright have to feather the gas a git for about 20 seconds before she keeps herself running but the problem is when she is hot I have to crank her over and over while pumping the gas to get her to fire up when she does there is a small poof of smoke or steam when she fires the reason I say it may be steam is it reeks of fuel and I think it may be vaporized fuel. I have her dialed in for timing at 6 on the dot. I used a vacuum gauge and got the. Carb Air fuel set at its highest vac point. It has electronic ignition and an msd blaster 2 coil besides that she is stock. Any ideas?

seems like it`s flooding by heat soak .. perculating maybe thay call it .. gas boiling in the carb .. you do also have a bit of an overheating problem .. oddly sometimes when a car is flooded you do have to pump more gas on top of it to get it started .. make sure you have a good insulator between the carb and intake .. do you have a rich running situation ? maybe the float is a bit high letting fuel spill over after you shut it off .. after it sits and before you try to start it take a look down the carb and see if any gas is dripping into the engine
