Is there a difference in the 69 and 70 pop open caps when using them on 65/66? Should you using another cap underneath or does the 70 seal tight enough to not leak?

Opinions on the 71-73 pop open? Will it too work on the 65/66?

69 guys chime in - but isn't the 69 tailight panel curved, whereas the 70 is flat?

Well, anything can be made to fit if you desire it bad enough, but I do believe they offer a version of the 69' style for earlier cars now at least I seem to recall seeing something like that in Virginia Classic.

As for difference in the 69 and 70 version, while they look about the same I think (and that's only think, not sure) that the 69' is vented while the 70' is not and the lip is shallower due to the extra honeycomb panel behind it.

Yes, another good point.

I guess I should pay more attention. I never noticed they were different. :bang:

Agreed - the '69 is curved and will not work on the flat 65/66 tail light panel. The '70 however, will bolt right up (matching the '66 screw holes exactly). As for the '71-'73 pop-opens, I think I read once that due to their large size, closing the trunk may trigger them to open. Don't know that to be true first hand though...

That sounds like it could very well be true. This car appears to have a simillar one to 71-73 on a 65 and I did wonder why it was mounted sideways, but that might explain why.

I've got a 71-73 pop open gas cap on my 65, and as far as the trunk hitting it and popping open the cap, I haven't had that problem. I did have to clearance the base of the cap though, as the trunk would hit it if you slammed the trunk closed.
Here's the best picture I have of the gas cap right now.

If you need better pictures I'll take some new ones and post them.

Ronnie, I'd like to see a close up of how it sits in relation to the trunklid and bottom of the taillight panel. Thanks

Josh, Here are a few pictures of the gas cap. If you look at the top of the cap, behind the latch you can see where I had to clearance it, to clear the edge of the trunk lid.

I hope this helps, if not let me know and I'll get some more shots of it.
