68 GT Fastback - Tire Advice
I have a 68 GT Fastback that was factory ordered by my father in March of 68. It has been sitting somewhat idle for the last few years, only coming out of the chute on nice dry days 5 or 6 times a year. It is time for tires as the old ones are pretty rotted. Currently have the following;
Front P215/75R14's
Back P245/60R14's
The front tires look too tall and give the car a little bit of an uphill rake.
Any ideas on a better tire size for my stock, 14" styled steel wheels?
Of course, I like them to look meaty....
Thanks

Were the original stock tires on a 68 Mustang GT - 302 basically P215-75R?
Found a nice web site that compares tire sizes with Java.

Looking for the actual original size now.

wow....yeah...the difference between a 60 and a 75 is a lot. I would say to pick the aspect ration you like the best and go with it all the way around. I myself used to have 60s on all fours...but just recently went to 70s in the rear....gives it a little rake....I'm not completely sold on it though...I think when those wear out, I'll get 15" wheels in rear and keep the 60 aspect ratio....the rake will be similer, but it wont look like I have flotation truck tires in rear.
...I know its not a good pic...but here is my car with 60s on front, 70s on rear....14' wheels all the way around.

No chance for a sell of the car. I grew up in it, and have had it since 16.
Anyone know a site that shows the maximum size tires that can go in without rubbing? I'd like to get just a little wider than the P245/60R14's I have on the back.
The fronts were P215/75R14's.

I've never picked up a transvestite in my life!
So the real answer is the rear wheels affect your speed, not your front as the tranny is connected to them unless you are an unholy person that made your mustang into a 4x4 monster car.

Or you can get the 21 tooth drive gear to throw your speedo way off, get a calibration, and get some speeding tix reduced to "improper equipment".
I miss the old days.

You must remember, in the 60's they went for the front end higher then the rear end look. It was suppposed to look racey. Having the front end up shifted the center of gravity further back giving better grip and acceleration. At least that was the idea. Since most of us prefer the opposite look ( lower in the front ) we can make changes in the original set up to get that look. When I needed to replace springs on my 68, I used heavy duty rear and standard front. This gave me an almost level look, just slightly lower in the front. That was with identical tires all the way around. Has anyone else experienced wheel rub on the inside of front fenders with new wider tires?
