66 coupe 289 v8 wire issues
Hi,
I'm looking for some help regarding a new wire loom. The problem is the idiot that had the car before me pulled all the wires out under the dash and cut the rest. I have a complete mess of wires and no instrument wires at all.
I was going to go for the autowire kit. I have no idea if it single wire double wire or anything. The only wires under the hood are the spark leads! i believe amp meter needs to be replaced with a volt meter as they were problematic?
Please help so i can bring this wonderful car back to life. Once thats done i can start on the rear quarters!!
Thanks in advance.

It seems since you have such a tough issue, it would be hard to address with a quick reply. If I were in your shoes, I would get a shop manual (I beleive the 60's were in four or five volumes, and I can't stress how important the OEM shop manuals are) and specifically, get the electrical.
I would purchase a new wiring harness, I presume (never assume) one could be obtained throught a restoration dealer online or catalog, and start from the ground up, so to speak - and man, I sure hate doing electrical.
I can only speak from experience with my '69 Galaxie, and the entire electrical schematic isn't terribly complicated, though you will spend a considerable amount of time running the wires througout the vehicle. Be prepared to remove the dash and other interrior parts.
Sorry I coudn't be of more assistance; perhaps someone else may have a better idea.

it`s not that no one could/would help you .. it`s more that some one could come and do it for you easier than to tell you how to do it ...kinda like painting a car .. it`s easy ... just try it ...

Hi chaps,
Thanks very much for the replies. I guessed i was on a long haul. The dash is already out and there is nothing there so thats a bonus or not as the case maybe. I have heard good things about autowire and think i will give it go like you say. I have some restoration manuals but like u say OEM will have to be the way to go! While the dash is out i think the dials could be replaced especially the ampmeter which looks to be stumbling block.
Thanks again and any tips no matter how small all add up.
