My dad and i were thinking of swapping the old 65 standard gauage set and putting a 65 GT guage set. We looked under the dash and it looked so cramed that we couldnt see anything....I was wondering if u had to remove the dash pad to get access to it.... any help would be greatly appreciated gota get my hands on a shop manual soon :P

yep...the screws around the outside that you can see. The Speedo cable will only let it come out about an inch, so you need to unscrew it. Be carfull with all of the lights, and be sure to put them in the right places. I accidently put one of the regular ones in the oil pressure slot, and for some reason my car lost oil pressure at night...then I figured it out! The speeo cable it kinda tought to put back on though... but I have short arms.

unscrew the cable. Be careful not to scratch your case or your dash. I usually apply painter's tape around the cluster so I don't scratch.
Remember, if you go to GT gauges, you'll have to get a different oil pressure sender. The one for gauges and the one for idiot lights are different.

The oil pressure sender is larger so you have to buy an extension that moves the sender away from the block/oil/gas filters. Cost about $20 bucks. Had to do the same thing when I went to a complete new dash setup with an integrated tach and electronic speedo.
