definitely go for the 5 speed. I am converting my fathers 66 convertible to 5 speed. the parts are so readily availible, and if the car is an original auto than i wouldn't worry about keeping it more period correct. the 5 speed shifts nicer, works better and is just so darn common these days. and the newer clutch feel if you go for a cable or hydraulic clutch.

I've still got a while to think about this...but right now I'm leaning towards t-5 and cylinder heads...would probably run me the same price as the s/c...but satisfy both wants for more power and more gears....but like I said, I've got time.

That actually seems like a pretty good compromise

..performance parts seem to be the best price at summitt...Modern Driveline sells a complete tranny conversion kit...Mustangs Unlimited looks like a good place for the paxton.

this may sound a little crazy but check a few local bone yards. They often have newer trans or slightly used for lots less.

I've givin that a thought...and I'll check it out...I just want to make sure I'm putting good stuff into the car...Even though I want to pinch pennies on this, I dont want sacrifice quality.

...so do mods not have the ability to add polls or what?

is it possible to lower the motor?...I'm concerned that the roots would not fit under the hood. My hood does have extra clearence becuase of the scoop, but it adds probably only another inch or two of clearance.

I wouldn't thing its a practical alternative to a street car. I'm sure its "possible" in a very strict sense of the word, but its probably not something just anyone can do. You could move the engine mounting points around, but it probably wouldn't be as strong or easy to do at all.

A better alternative would be a taller cowl scoop

ok...so according to this site, I think I am convinced that t-5 is the way to go. Here is a list of transmission weghts.

Borg Warner 78lbs 5 speed manual (85) T-5, Ford pattern

Ford C6 ~202lbs 3 speed auto (152) Big block C-6, 165 lbs, Transmission
weight, drained, without torque
converter 37 lb, Torque converter
weight, mostly drained
Ford C6 ~171lbs 3 speed auto (154) no fluid

Ford C4 ~185lbs 3 speed auto (152) Small block C-6, 150 lbs, Transmission weight, drained, without torque converter 35 lb, Torque converter weight, mostly drained
Ford AOD 184lbs 4 speed auto (154) (without fluid)
Ford AOD 195lbs 4 speed auto (159) including torque convertor
so by doing the conversion, I the car will loose about 142 lbs of drivetrain weight! Thats a passenger! This was the final straw...if I can get the $$$ lined up...that C4's days are numbered!

I hope I can....weight is king in these cars...they are so light...losing any weight is almost better than gaining horsepower....almost

For your supercharger dillemma, why noy just get the paxton (whenever you get to it)

Its centrifugal, not a roots, so you wont need more clearance

I like the way you are thinking....and to be extra sneeky and nostalgic, I'll get a White ball with a 4-speed pattern and the correct reverse location...then I'd have a "secret gear"

"I believe you have underestimated the level of my sneekyness, sir"
