1969 Mustang Convertible

1969 Mustang Convertible
I found a 1969 Mustang convertible locally, and would like the experts here on TMS to tell me what I need to know about them. I've never looked at buying a classic car like this, I was planning on buying a new one until I saw this ad. What should I be aware of? Are there any areas to look at? Does the price seem fair?
The ad states: "1969 Mustang convertible $13000: white top (new), black interior, 302 4 barrel, dual exhaust, automatic transmission, alloy wheels, new radials, CD with amp."
My mom had a car very similar to it when she was younger and I know that it would make her very happy to have another one. Thanks, I appreciate all the help and I enjoy reading about everyone's cars so keep posting!

I've never been a fan of the 69 verts...but that price seems pretty decent for a first generation v8 convertable as a whole...not the most saught after model, but ti would be a blast to criuse around in.
check for rust on the rockers, shock towers, and quater panels....cowl area too. Welcome to the site!

Thanks for the advice codeman94 and ravenblack67. I have a friend that has a first generation Stang that will come with me to look at it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I love the 69 convertibles. Look at the rear frame rails too. If it's a solid car it's a good price. Drive it, you may be disappointed on how old Mustang's drive compared to new ones. Keep us posted.

My first Mustang was a '69 coupe. Loved that car.
Definitely as primitive and rough-riding as a horse-cart compared to my '06!

Looked at a '73 Convert
I saw an ad for a 1973 Mustang convertible and went and looked/test drove it. It was in fair condition, had a few rust areas, bondo on the right rear quarter, a few scratches, ect., but I thought the price seemed fair for its condition ($7500). From the pictures, what are your thoughts? My only concern was the rust pictured in the 7th picture down. It's located in the Minneapolis area if anyone it interested.

The car has been repainted so chances are the rust repair done at that time wasn't done right (that's why it came back). I'm betting that surface rust will be holes when you get to doing the body work. Those areas are fixable but you didn't get pictures of the most important areas, the frame rails, floor, torque boxes, and shock towers.
I want to start collecting pictures of rusted mustangs and post a guide on here to help people. I'll work on it when it gets cold. If any one has pictures of rusted frame rails and other areas, please PM me and we'll come up with a useful guide.

What a great idea! I know it would be much appreciated by many. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures of the '69-planning on looking at it on Wednesday. After driving the '73, it's made me reconsider a new one!

Thanks, any help with pictures will be appreciated. My cars are finished so I can take pictures of them for what it should look like but I would like to show bad areas too.

That's a shame, a classic has got style and a legacy, no matter how nice the new stangs are, you can NEVER beat a classic. And a 71-72 (it was not a 73, those have vertical driving lights) drives better then a 64-66....
Also: a good car drives well, a bad car doesn't, whatever year it is !
I am very happy how my car drives, being 41 years old, it does pretty well. (and that on ****ty belgian roads)
