Ford Teases 60th Anniversary Mustang

Ford is planning one heck of a 60th birthday party for the Mustang, with a limited-edition model as well as digital goodies for existing owners.

The Ford Mustang celebrates its 60th birthday this week. It was originally unveiled to the public at the New York World’s Fair on April 17th, 1964. The Mustang was an instant hit, selling over one million units in just 18 months.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Mustang caused a sensation upon its release, and that fervor hasn’t subsided much in the six decades since its release. Mustangs are still as popular as ever, with fans all over the world. In fact, it’s been the best-selling sports car in the world for over a decade.

Ford is celebrating this special milestone with a limited-edition 60th Anniversary model. Like the original, it will be revealed on April 17th as a midyear model. This time, it will be revealed at an event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

What We Know So Far

Ford has teased the reveal with an all-new 60th Anniversary logo. This logo uses deep Vermillion Red and Ebony Black coloring as a reference to the badging and wheel center caps on the first production Mustangs.

As of now, we don’t know anything else about the 60th Anniversary package. Ford has done a good job of keeping it a secret thus far. Special badging and upholstery details are more or less expected with anniversary editions. We’re hoping for some other goodies, too, like added performance or, at the very least, unique wheels.

Current 2024 Mustang owners will be able to get in on the fun as well. If you have Automatic Software Updates enabled in the Settings menu, you’ll get a special 60th Anniversary update soon. We expect the update will include a new startup logo at a minimum.

One of the most interesting features of the 2024 Mustang is the digital gauge cluster. Specifically, the option to replace the standard display with a digital copy of the Fox-body 5.0 Mustang gauge cluster. Could this 6oth Anniversary update include a 1964 1/2 gauge cluster?

We’ll just have to wait and see. As surprise birthday parties go, this one is worth getting excited about. What are you hoping for from the 60th Anniversary Mustang?
