Ford Really Should Have Made a Crown Victoria Cobra R

Cobra R

If Ford can call an electric crossover a ‘Mustang,’ then someone should have given the Crown Victoria Cobra R the thumbs up.

AMG does it. So does Dodge. So why not Ford? We’re talking about the ability to take a powerhouse engine, and make it find a home in just about anything. And in this case, it should have been the Cobra R engine in the Crown Victoria. But, this goes a step farther than the engine. Or does it?

Disclaimer; this car never happened. But Hagerty and visual artist Abimelec Design teamed up to create a super Marauder. A Crown Vic of all Crown Vics. The fastest sedan on Woodward. Germans cars be damned. Realize the context here. Mercedes’ E-class AMG of the era was making a paltry 349 horsepower. BMW’s M5 was making 394 horsepower. And right there in the ring (or, the ‘Ring) would have been the Crown Vic Cobra R. It’s V8 producing 385 horsepower.

Hagerty’s Jack Baruth imagines this Crown Cobra to be devoid of Cobra R handling goodies, in order to better control costs. “This ain’t no M5, pal. But it isn’t priced like an M5, and you can get it fixed at taxicab rates, likely using taxicab parts,” Baruth writes. With an imagined MSRP of $35,000.00, it’s priced well below an M5. And even well below the Mustang Cobra R’s window price of $54,995.00.

So what you get here is a loud brash red taxi with a wing and a big engine. You won’t find us complaining.
