Ford Mustang Driver Fails Epically at Drag Strip

Seriously, a kid just beginning to learn the basics of driving could get off the line quicker than this doofus.

Drag racing, at least on paper, is one of the easiest types of racing. Drivers, especially those piloting cars with an automatic transmission down the strip, hold the brake and the throttle until they see a green light, which is when they mash the go-fast pedal. The rest requires the driver to keep the car in a straight line until the tarmac comes to an end. Sounds easy, right?

We’re being facetious here, as there’s a lot to worry about when it comes to drag racing. Finding the happy spot to launch a vehicle is trickier than it sounds, and completing a good burnout to ensure that the tires have the right amount of grip also takes a lot of practice. And then, on extremely high-powered cars, getting the darn vehicle to go straight also poses its own problems. But this driver, well, he messed up for an entirely different reason.

For some strange reason, the owner of this Ford Mustang GT decided that going in reverse was the best way to get down the drag strip. And no, we’re not joking. 1320video’s at the annual F-body meet in Missouri is filled with tons of close drag races, close-ups of amazing machines, and one idiot that attempted to complete a drag race by starting off in reverse. The driver lined up against another Mustang with the coupe’s reverse lights on and when he or she gassed it, the vehicle took off in the wrong direction.

It doesn’t even look like it’s the driver’s first time at the strip, as the ‘Stang is fitted with massive rear tires that look at home on the drag strip. But even with sticky tires and upgrades, we assume the vehicle is modified in at least some way, there’s no coming back from starting off in reverse in a drag race. To watch the Mustang’s driver epically fail at going forward in a straight line, skip ahead to the 5:15 mark.
