Omg that's crazy

And I posted this on my blog about the 5.0 flying through the parking lot. What an idiot.

That right there. That bus vs car thing.

There are federal laws about the semis having the crash bars below the actual trailer, so that particular type of thing doesn't happen, and it's requirement directly attributable Jayne Mansfield's death:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-tr...nderride_guard

It's often called a Mansfield Bar, as you can see why.

And I was looking at school buses (not city buses, mind, they're not a problem) and saw this very thing... that a car would just simply plow itself into the axle of these things... where are THEIR Mansfield Bars?!

Always found that interesting... there are requirements for bumpers on them, so they're there, but those bumpers are useful for decapitation, and not actually bumping anything.

Of course, I'm not real sure an iron bar sitting just below the tractor/bus/? is a great alternative... seems ya'd just get hurt differently... and maybe not in a better way...

/Sorry... threadjacked, but only a little.

These accidents prove that the Mustang is a well built car. All of this reminds me of something a old grumpy Sergeant told me when I was in the army. "Son, if you're gonna be stupid, ya better be tough".

The under-ride protection on trucks in the USA is ****-poor. Lobbiests make sure congress keeps it that way. Too bad the system is set up such that if something meets government standards facing a loosing court decision is unlikely. Otherwise trucks would have under ride protection similar to that of europe mandated by their private insurers.

As to why not school buses, some clues here:
