I need to remove my Stock 2005 GT Emblems and was curious how they are attached? Didn't see an easy way to get to them. If they are glued on I may just glue the new ones over them. It would be easier if they were bolt on options as I could mod the new GT deals I'm putting on to fit the factory holes.

So question one is, "How are these attached?"

Question 2 is if they are attached with Glue rather than bolts, should I attach the new ones with glue as well?

They are held on with a 2 sided tape (glue) there are 2 holes under them that was used for alignment to the fender. There is no good way to take them off. Just be carefull and grab the edge wity plyers and pull. It will distroy the emblem, but once it is off you can clean the left over tape off with Goof Off cleaner.

Be careful..........good luck

There have been a couple of threads on this posted here. If you look back through the previous pages you should find them ... I assume those pics are your first and latest

The pliers thing, don't bother, it's not necessary. Just get a blow dryer, heat them up good and slip a credit card or something under an edge. Keep constant pressure as you're pulling them away from the car and they'll come off no problem - and intact, ready to use again if you need to. Mine are perfect, replaced with running ponys to cover the holes. If you need to see where they are, look through the "removing emblems" strings, there's lots of info and I posted pics of the holes a few times now.

Good luck, nice pic on the retro badging.

Mark.

Heat them up with a hair dryer. Run dental floss back and forth and it will remove them. No damage to the paint. Then use an adhesive remover (goo-gone, methyl hydrate or good old rubbing alcohol) to remove the residue. Use dawn liquid detergent to wash the area. This will remove any grease and wax. Apply the decals and then rewax the area you washed.
Pretty simple.

Thanks for the help.

I'll have to do a couple of mods on my other GT emblems to get them to fit. I'll have to hack off one pin as the two holes won't be the same.

My next issue is "What type of adhesive would be best." I looked at the other threads but didn't see anything regarding reattachment.

I installed the '68 GT emblems a few months ago. I had the company that sold them to me remove the tabs and install 3M tape. They look great on the car. As for removing the factory emblems, all I did was use an old credit card to slide under the emblem. As I slide the card under the emblem, I applied a little pressure to the on the emblem with my fingures gently pulling them. They popped right off with no damage to the emblems or paint surface. The entire job of removing the factory emblems and installing the new ones took less than 20 min. here are a couple pictures.

Thanks for the help. Finished Two mods today. Side Vents and the GT Emblems.

Next up are the chrome tailight mod (have parts just not time yet)

and then the Fake Gas Cap on the tail....

Also looking for a coral big enough to fit around my grill horse. This is fun.

Oh, and for those wondering, these are what the holes look like on the fender when you remove the original GT emblems.

Well, I am adding the side stripes and the GT emblem and the GT in the stripe text seems redundant.

And I like the look of the Cobra emblem...
