There are pairs that will always go together. Peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, and Sonny and Cher, come right to mind. The first two are enjoyable edibles, where as that last pair was a musical treat to many. During the height of their success, they also had a pair of custom 1966 Mustangs made for them by legendary builder, George Barris.

Interior and exterior changes are extensive, as you would expect. A new front and rear were created, which incorporated tail lights from the Ford Thunderbird. The sides feature two tone paint and, interestingly, suede. Inside, thick carpets and animal print on the seats are representative of the era in which they were built. Both were taken directly from the assembly line by Barris, and powered by a 289 mated to a three-speed automatic.

They were both recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas. Sonny’s 289 sold for $71,500, and Cher’s went for a bit less, at $55,000. Being sold from the Tammy Allen collection, they were ultimately bought by the same collector, so the the pair of pony cars will stay together, as they always should.
