VMP-boosted Coyote Battles It Out with 2020 Shelby GT500
YouTuber Stangmode pits his VMP Boosted 5.0 Mustang against his GT500 for a good, old fashioned quarter-mile showdown.
It is always interesting to gain some perspective. The mighty 2020 Ford Mustang GT500 is certainly not slow. Its 760 roaring horsepower will rocket you from zero to sixty miles an hour in under four seconds. However, its main focus is a nice curvy race track. How does it stack up against a boosted 5.0 Mustang GT purpose-built for drag racing?
If you are a consistent reader of The Mustang Source, you’ve undoubtedly seen Kundan Nasir and his Youtube channel, Stangmode. We have watched the assembly of his 5.0 Mustang GT, nickname “Mamba,” grow from a stock car to a drag strip hero. In a recent upload, he takes both Mamba and his GT500 “Hulk” to the drag strip for a head to head battle.
“This is the matchup a lot of people wanted to see. It’s a little unfair but listen, caveat, this car is made for the race track. Mamba’s a straight drag killer,” says Nasir.
For reference, Mamba makes 855 wheel horsepower and runs mid nines in the quarter-mile. It has a built transmission, Steeda suspension, drag axles, and virtually an endless list of more modifications. It is also boosted to the moon with a VMP supercharger.
The GT500, though, is nearly bone-stock.
“This is the Hulk, completely stock except for a JLT cold air intake. It has a resonator delete, Nitto NT05Rs, and weight reduction,” says Nasir.
Going into this video with this knowledge makes the outcome fairly predictable. Still, it’s pretty awesome to see these two monsters running side by side down the quarter-mile. This certainly isn’t a sight you’ll see every day.
Right out of the gate, Mamba starts walking away from the GT500 like it isn’t even trying. Without knowing what the GT500 is capable of, you might think it’s a slow car. That’s how fast Mamba really is. By the end of the quarter-mile, the boosted monster puts a gap on the GT500 that the term “bus lengths” almost isn’t even enough to describe.
From the camera mounted on Mamba’s perspective, the GT500 is practically invisible by the time it crosses the finish line. Mamba puts down a nasty pass of 9.45 seconds at 148 miles per hour, while the GT500 lays down a respectable 11.1 at 132 miles per hour. Sadly, this is the only race they got to do as Mamba is too fast for running without a roll cage.
“I wanted to try a couple of things, but we can’t do it because we got kicked out,” says Nasir.
In essence, we all knew what was in store. However, this video is still super fun to watch. We certainly aren’t mad about watching a couple of super-fast Mustangs tear it up down the drag strip.
Be sure to subscribe to Stangmode for more videos on his awesome Mustang builds. We hope someday soon Mamba will be cracking off 8-second passes!
