Australia’s Exclusive R-Spec Mustang Has Us a Little Jealous
Mustang R-Spec packs a 700 horsepower supercharged Coyote V8 and 0nly 500 examples will be sold.
It seems the US Market isn’t the only one hankering for a ridiculously powerful Mustangs. What’s not to love, right? Ford Mustang heritage and praise expands far beyond US borderlines, so why not get a little wild in other markets?
That’s exactly what Ford is doing in Australia. The Mustang R-Spec is a crazy beast of a car that is only to be sold in Australia. The Coyote 5.0 sports a 2.65-liter roots supercharger, likely Roush supplied, and outputs 7oo horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. To supplement the added power, it sits 0.787 inches lower than a standard GT. Bigger stabilizer bars on both ends, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires ensure it’s planted nicely to the ground.
Additionally, it features a full-face radiator and an aluminum intercooler.
The R-spec is only available with a six-speed manual transmission, and we think that’s pretty cool. No disrespect to the auto drivers out there, of course. It also features a variable exhaust courtesy of Herrod Performance, the largest Ford parts distributor outside of the US. The exhaust has four different settings; Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Race Track.
The R-spec looks just a tad different than your run of the mill Mustang, too. It has an exclusive front fascia sporting larger intakes, and black surrounds the daytime running lights. It looks pretty amazing! Couple that with the gloss black mirror caps and spoiler, and finish it off with the beautiful racing stripes running up and over its entirety. Now you’ve got something quite fulfilling to look at.
“The R-SPEC has to stand out visually, even at a standstill,” said Ford designer Dave Dewitt, who led the exterior enhancement package. “That starts with the stance, and the unique 19-inch Ford Performance alloy wheels combined with the Ford Performance suspension package. When we combine these functional upgrades with the unique design cues, the result is a meaner, more aggressive attitude, and more flattering silhouette; the car just looks ready to go!”
The R-Spec Mustang will go on sale for $99,980 AUD, which works out to just under $70,000 USD. When considering the limited run of this monster, the price doesn’t seem that unreasonable.
We have to admit, we’re a little jealous. This is one sweet Mustang, and we don’t get them! So if any Australian readers are seeing this, send us some pictures!
