All-motor Mustang Cracks Off Low 10-second Pass

With all these turbo and supercharged S550 Mustangs running around, we forget what an all-motor build is capable of. 

We know we don’t have to convince you the S550 Mustang is a phenomenal drag racing platform. If you are a frequent reader around here, you’ve no doubt seen plenty of twin-turbo or supercharged Mustangs busting out insane drag times. However, one thing that doesn’t come up a whole lot is the ever-elusive naturally aspirated Coyote build. The all-motor route is surprisingly fruitful with these five-liter beasts.

Proof, you ask? Well, take a look at this recent Palm Beach Dyno Youtube video. This 2019 Mustang GT takes to the strip with no turbo, supercharger, or even nitrous to speak of. That does not stop it from busting out a quarter-mile pass in just 10.3 seconds at a mind-blowing 134 miles-per hour. It’s no one-trick pony, either. Throughout the video and day at the track, it consistently puts down runs at 10.5 and under. So, what exactly is done to this badass all-motor beast?

It’s actually quite a bit less than you might think. As we before mentioned, it doesn’t even have nitrous. What it does have, though, is a ported Cobra Jet intake manifold, Comp camshafts, and a JLT cold air intake. Additionally, a Circle D torque converter and 4.09 rear-gearing help this thing accelerate like a bat out of hell. However, we don’t know the exact stall speed of that converter. What we do know, though, is it has BMR/Viking Suspension and an E85 tune. That’s about it. That’s fairly remarkable when you consider just how fast this thing is blasting down the track.

It does make you wonder, though. How fast can an all-motor S550 Mustang get? We have already seen one takedown a GT500, and a naturally aspirated Coyote has been into the 8-second range in a Foxbody chassis. Where is the limit with the heavier but sleeker S550 chassis?

As with any drag car, we feel it is safe to assume that this is only the beginning of this car’s career. So there is a decent chance we will get to see what an NA Coyote is capable of beyond this 10.3-second pass. Hopefully, there will be more videos on this monster in the near future. It seems that the sky’s the limit for a Coyote in just about any format with the right amount of money spent.
