Youtube superstar Adam LZ will pilot a Mustang RTR Spec 5D alongside now-teammate Chelsea DeNofa in the 2022 Formula Drift Season.

Just a few short weeks ago, we brought you the story of Vaughn Gittin Jr taking a break from competing in Formula Drift. After two championships and nearly two decades of showing us what Mustangs are really made of in drift competition, Gittin decided it was time to take a break and focus on other ventures. However, RTR’s drift team shows zero signs of slowing down. RTR driver Chelsea DeNofa had multiple podiums in the 2021 season. Furthermore, DeNofa finished fourth overall for the season. Immediately following Gittin’s announcement of his plan to leave FD, fans of the sideways motorsport began speculating who would be taking his place. Many fans’ eyes immediately turned to youtube star Adam LZ.

As it turns out, those suspicions were correct. After all, it’s no secret that LZ and Team RTR got along well. Furthermore, last season, LZ announced that he would no longer be behind the wheel of his S15 Nissan Silvia drift car for the 2022 season. After all the speculation, Gittin, RTR, and Adam LZ made the official announcement that LZ is indeed the newest member of Drift Team RTR across both their Instagram account and LZ’s Youtube channel.

LZ Leaves Japanese Straight Six Power for American Big Block Brute Force

Though the Silvia LZ drove through his past few seasons of FD, wherein he landed himself Rookie of the Year, is no joke, it doesn’t quite hold a candle to the pure brute of the RTR Spec 5D Mustang.

In LZ’s video, teammate DeNofa breaks down the specs of these beasts. Under the hood is the Ford RY45 big block engine, which is an aluminum version of the FR9 engine Ford Performance runs in Nascar. According to DeNofa, it makes 800 wheel horsepower running entirely naturally aspirated. Mixing in nitrous bumps that power output to 1,200 horsepower to the ground.

Additionally, if you’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing the RTR Mustangs compete in person, you’ll know there’s nothing quite like the sound of these insane monsters of Ford fury.

Ultimately we can not way to see LZ behind the wheel of this car. He has proven time and time again that he is a competitive driver. We think having the backing of RTR and a team of people that have been competing in Formula Drift for decades will truly allow him to thrive.

“The opportunity of a lifetime! I’ve joined the RTR Vehicles team and will be piloting an RTR Spec 5D next year in Formula D. With Vaughn Gittin Jr behind the scenes, Chelsea DeNofa as my teammate, an incredible team – and a MONSTER of a car – excited is an understatement,” LZ wrote on Instagram, officially announcing his new spot on the team.

Though it doesn’t quite tell the whole story as it does in person, you can get a taste of LZ’s new monster Mustang in his youtube video where he burns some rubber at the RTR headquarters. Furthermore, LZ announced that they will release testing footage of the car on Friday, November 19th. We can’t wait to see it!
