Roush lifts the Mustang GT to 750 horsepower tunes the suspension and adds some unique body bits.

For many moons, Roush Performance has been creating upgrade packages for the Ford Mustang GT. As Ford makes improvements to the Mustang GT that lead to more power, Roush counters with their own new upgrades to yield even greater performance. Most recently, the Michigan-based tuning company introduced their Stage 3 package for the 2021 Ford Mustang GT and the results are impressive, with this specially-tuned pony car delivering a whopping 750 horsepower and 670 lb-ft of torque.

However, the Roush Stage 3 package doesn’t just add gobs of power. The “Signature Package” also includes upgrades to the body, suspension, wheels and tires, leading to an all-around-amazing performance car. To showcase the performance of the latest Stage 3 package, Roush turned to television personality Aaron Kaufman to hoon the car on camera and the result is three minutes of tire-slaying fun on the brand’s official YouTube channel.

Aaron Kaufman in Action

If you don’t recognize the guy behind the wheel in the video below, his name is Aaron Kaufman and he is best known for being the cohost and lead mechanic on the television show Gas Monkey Garage. Basically, he was the guy on the show who actually knew how to work on cars and drive cars while Richard Rawlings acted like a drunken fool and got all of the attention. Kaufman eventually left Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage to star in his own show, Shifting Gears with Aaron Kaufman, which was canceled after one season. He then went on to star in a show titled Aaron Needs a Job, which also didn’t succeed.

Today, he runs a company called Arclight Fabrication, where he builds custom components for classic Ford F-100 pickups. He has pretty much fallen from the limelight, but Kaufman is still famous enough to serve as a spokesperson for Roush Performance, leading to the video below.

The video is literally just three minutes of Kaufman enjoying himself in the 2021 Roush Stage 3 Mustang GT. He makes comments like “I never thought that I’d be in love, but it’s happening” and “this thing rips”, going on to state that the car is “eye opening” and an “absolute pleasure”. Late in the video, Kaufman explains that he would prefer to have the manual transmission when pushing the car to its limits, but for a fun, daily driver, the 10-speed automatic is great. He also praises the 750-horsepower Roush-charged V8, the uniquely tuned magnetic suspension setup and the grip of the Continental tires.

The key feature of the Roush Stage 3 package for the 2021 Ford Mustang GT is the addition of the phase 2 supercharger system. When coupled with the custom exhaust system and the custom engine tune, the 5.0-liter V8 delivers 750 horsepower and 670 lb-ft of torque. Available with either the 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission, and as either a fastback or convertible, the Roush Stage 3 package also adds the R9 body kit, a unique calibration to the MagneRide suspension system, an enhanced engine cooling package, unique graphics and 20-inch wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport Tires.

The Roush Stage 3 in Signature Package form starts at $24,995, obviously not including the car itself. The Competition Package adds active exhaust and an engine bay styling package for $2,495. The Podium Package adds an active carbon fiber wing and Brembo GT front brakes, along with the components of the Signature and Competition packages for $7,490.

Other options include gray forged wheels for $1,595, a premium interior package for $1,395 and a power boost to 775 horsepower for $4,995. If you add all of the various options, the Roush Stage 3 pricing rises to just over $40,000 for 775 horsepower and a full complement of options.

If you want a new Mustang GT with monster power and a unique look, the Roush Stage 3 package is the best way to go.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
