Ford GT Showdown: Stock vs Supercharged vs Turbocharged

Ford GT Stock vs Supercharged vs Turbocharged

This trio of Ford GT models couldn’t be much more different, but each proves to be quite enjoyable on the street, regardless.

These days, the first-generation Ford GT (not to be confused with the older GT40) is a high-value collectible that just keeps getting more expensive, though that wasn’t always true. Rather, it wasn’t that long ago that one could scoop up an older Ford GT for reasonable money, but that’s no longer the case. As such, we don’t see a ton of modified GTs out there these days, making this recent video from Boden Autohaus all the more interesting.

In this clip, we get to see three very different Ford GT models in action – a stock one, another with a Whipple supercharger, and a third equipped with a pair of turbos. Power and pricing varies greatly, as the stock model churns out 550 horsepower from the factory, while the supercharged version features $60k in mods and makes 800 horsepower, and the turbocharged GTX1 cranks out 1,500 horsepower with a whopping $150k build price.

The 11k-mile stock Ford GT drives pretty normal, and it feels quick, with plenty of torque and an even power band – though it isn’t exactly anything that will throw one back in their seat or light their proverbial hair on fire. The supercharged example figures to offer more in the way of thrills, and it’s also equipped with a Brembo big brake kit, a KW V3 suspension setup, and some larger wheels and tires, along with a titanium exhaust system.

That extra power and more modern suspension setup pay dividends on the pavement, and it sounds way better as well, thanks to those upgraded pipes. It handles well and requires more attention, given how much power it’s churning out, but it’s still plenty tame enough to use as a daily driver. As for the ultra-rare GTX1, it’s a pretty special machine in its own regard given the fact that roughly 35 exist, but this one has had an entire checkbook thrown at it.

The result is a car that can smoke the tires through pretty much every gear once full boost is achieved, but it’s equipped with the same KW suspension, Brembo big brake kit, and some beefier tires to help manage that insane level of power. It has been detuned slightly for street use, but it’s still an absolute monster in normal driving situations. Interestingly, it still proves pretty easy to drive and quite smooth, proving that no matter how one likes their Ford GT, it’s probably going to be pleasant to cruise around in, regardless.
