Official Mustang Crossover Sketch Revealed: Would You Buy One?

Mustang Crossover

Details are still scant, but here is a preview of how Ford may implement all-electric Mustang crossover. Here’s a sneak peek.

We’ve known for some time that Ford was building an all-electric crossover “inspired” by the Mustang. Heck, they even attempted to revive the iconic Mach 1 name for the upcoming 2020 model. Of course, massive public backlash killed that idea, and as of now this EV doesn’t have a name. Nor many other details to go by, other than Ford’s claim that it’ll go 300 miles on a charge. But now we do have a dark, ominous sketch of the rear of the crossover to scope out.

And it looks, well, a lot like a Mustang. You can clearly see the fastback-inspired roof and three vertical taillight sections on each side. Which are obvious cues from the current S550 Mustang. And why wouldn’t they incorporate some styling elements from that very car into this forthcoming utility? Consumers are buying more and more sporty “coupe” SUVs and crossovers these days, especially those packing extra performance.

It makes a ton of sense to use the Mustang as a base for something else, too. For some time now, Ford’s legendary pony car has ridden on its own unique chassis. Which, in the automotive world, isn’t terribly common due to cost restrictions. Adding another model to the mix would only help solidify the Mustang’s future in a world that’s suddenly shunning cars for SUVs and trucks.

We can certainly see a market for a sporty, stylish, electric crossover. It would give Ford something to do battle with similar models like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-PACE, presumably at a lower price point. And the fact that is carries Mustang DNA means that people will immediately know what it’s all about. Now there’s just one question left to ask – would you buy a Mustang crossover? Let us know in the comments below.
