2013 Mustang GT Custom Side

S197 Ford Mustang GT is transformed from your average street car to a show-stopping muscle car.

Forum member mykmid@gmail.com might have one of the worst screen names we’ve seen, but his 2013 Mustang GT is gorgeous. In a thread in the 2010-2014 Mustang 5.0L GT Modifications section, he put together a thread detailing the project to customize his pony car, starting with a simple introduction, running through the list of upgrades and finishing with a spread of pictures of the car after all of the work was complete.

Introduction

When the OP first introduced the forum to his 2013 Mustang GT, he began by offering a quick rundown of his plans for the car and the upgrades that were already on his Ford when he purchased it.

“FINALLY got all my initial modifications done and starting this new thread in the right location. Anyway, all the initially planned mods are complete and the difference is AMAZING? Got improvements on power, ride quality and handling, as well as braking.

So, before starting (car as purchased) only the following mods had taken place.

Borla Catback exhaust
BOSS stripes
20″ rims / tires
Recaro seats”

Upgrade Reviews

Finally, the OP offered short reviews of some of the key components of his Mustang project, so while the car looks great, the most important aspect is the fact that the owner loves the current result. Here is what he had to say about the braking and suspension upgrades:

“Can’t say there’s anything I did that was a disappointment and even though all of this was not exactly inexpensive – I feel it was all very much worth it! It drives like a new car and the few things (suspension and braking) that inially annoyed me are things of the past!

SO happy I spent the extra $ of getting the Baer brake package – those beautiful red calipers and drilled / slotted rotors look AWESOME with my 20″ chrome wheels. Hope you agree. I put the drilled slotted rotors on the back as well and just kept the same calipers – just added new pads and caliper covers. As I said, only issue I had was needing to add spacers so my wheels would clear the calipers.

The Eibach suspension is everything I was hoping for – completely different car on the turns now. Also very happy with the added power I’m getting with the Cobra Jet intake – it sure looks great under the hood too! Most of the new power is in the mid to higher gears and RPMS – just where I wanted it! The Ford Racing shifter is another mod that was very much worth it – completely different (in a good way) shifting – and looks great with the alcantara boot and white ****!”

In addition to all of the lists and input above, the OP attached a collection of pictures of his gorgeous 2013 Mustang GT. We have included some of them here, but you see them all in the original project thread by clicking here.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
