2020 GT500 Absolutely Shreds Goodwood Hillclimb in U.K.
New Shelby GT500 proves it’s everything we want it to be at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019.
With legendary Formula Drift driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. at the wheel, the 2020 Shelby GT500 attacked the iconic Goodwood Hillclimb course this past weekend. As you might expect it came with quite a show. Right off the bat Gittin Jr. brings it up to its launch control limiter and takes off in a long smokey burnout and follows it with a performance that will kill any lingering doubt about the new Shelby’s capabilities.
Ford Europe posted the footage of this green monster doing what it does best. It’s clear this car is no joke, even though the clip is only a minute long. Nobody doubted that the 760 Horsepower beast could slay a set of tires. However, it has become even more apparent that this car is made for corners. The GT500 is seen cornering flat and quickly throughout the course, exiting the corners with the supercharged V8 screaming loud and proud.
The engine sounds incredible, but another noise that is sure to catch your attention is a bit different. Listen to that transmission work! If you are the type that prefers a manual, you certainly are not alone. Even so, one can appreciate the incredible speed that the dual-clutch auto moves between gears. It’s especially good on the downshift, with a perfect blip of the throttle every time.
Needless to say, this is likely the rowdiest mustang we’ll see for quite some time. Following up the GT350 was to be no easy task, but it sure seems like they managed to make it happen. So if you happen to have nearly $100,000 burning a hole in your pocket, there appears to be no reason not to get your hands on a GT500.
It’s in your best interest not to let Vaughn Gittin Jr. drive it, too. You know, to stay on the safe side.
