Consider yourself a diehard Mustang performance buff? Then quick, how much faster is the current Mustang GT’s 0 – 60 mph time over the very first Mustang?

Tick, tick, tick…

Go ahead, guess…

Okay, time’s up. The GT is roughly 3.7 seconds faster than the 1964.5 Mustang Convertible, which had a 0 to 60 mph time of 8.2 seconds, compared to 4.5 seconds for a 2015 Mustang GT. Crazy, right? And that’s not the only interesting fact about the speed of Mustangs over the years, as highlighted in a recent Car and Driver report.

The slowest Mustang among the models featured in the rundown is the 1974 Mach 1 at 12.2 seconds. The fastest? Nope, not the 2016 Shelby GT350R. It actually comes in second on the list, with a 0 – 60 mph acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. According to C&D, the reigning king of speed in the world of Mustangs is the 2013 Shelby GT500, which has a 0 – 60 mph time of 3.5 seconds.
