PRI 2014: Ford Racing Announces New Modular Stroker Shortblock and Aluminum Block
B53 5.3L Modular Stroker Shortblock
Ford Racing is bringing the noise for 2-valve, 3-valve, and 4-valve modular motors, all of which utilize the BOSS block, a neutral balanced rotating assembly that consists of Eagle crank, forged Eagle H-beam rods, and forged Mahle pistons.
We know what you’re thinking: This has already been done! And you’d be right, sort of. Sure, 5.3L modulars aren’t new, but Ford Racing has never offered a complete 5.3L modular shortblock.
So why should you care? Because if Ford Racing is behind it, you know it’s not only made from quality components, but the machine work will be impeccable. It also means no more waiting months on a machine shop to complete your shortblock!
Here’s a photo of the information board we snapped at PRI 2014:
Z351 Aluminum Block
There was also the release of the Windsor based Ford Racing Z351 aluminum block in 9.2” and 9.5” deck heights. It features 356-T6 grade aluminum, splayed 4-bolt, steel billet main caps on 2, 3 & 4, steel billet 2-bolt main caps on 1 & 5, accepts SBF timing chain/cover and oil pump, can handle 4.205-inch stroke, and weighs approximately 110-pounds. For reference, a BOSS 351 iron block weighs roughly 195-pounds.
We don’t know about you, but we couldn’t be more excited about the fact that Ford Racing is still supporting the modular and the SBF!

We’d also like to give a special thanks to Jesse Kershaw at Ford Racing and Andrew Casselberry for the exclusive pics.
