2011-2012 Skip-shift goes away after axle-back?

This may and will sound unheard of or plain dumb but 2 years ago I read somewhere that if stock exhaust is removed, the skip shift feature wouldn't work. i don't use this feature but i don't want to lose it either. i'll be getting the ford racing exhaust axle back m-5230-mgtla (no drone version) in summer, but my ford technician couldn't answer me

How exactly would that work...?

The exhaust isn't tied into anything even remotely related to skip shift (especially just the axle backs). So in short, no...it won't change that.

Only way to disable Skip-shift is with a Tune ... you can disconnect the Solenoid but the Dash message will still show. Why in the world would you not want to lose this feature? Even Ford was Smart enough to not include it in 2013.

Dan is indeed correct.

However, I can help you cut off skip shift for much cheaper using another device. PM me if interested.

The only one plausible explanation i can think of is that once you put on aftermarket exhaust, you tend to shift over 3000rpm to hear it roar, which effectively turns of skipshift.

It's RPM and probably load based, if you are slowly accelerating it will happen. I can't see why you would want it in the first place, probably the most annoying thing about the 11 and 12 cars.

This is the first post I have ever seen where someone wants to keep skip-shift!

Thankfully the Shelby does not have skip shift. Personally I think this is a safety hazzard more than a gas saver.

Right! Just do it on your own if you choose. Don't need a "nanny" device forcing you to.

Ford tech doesn't see a point in it either since shifting 1 to 4 can damage the transmission

Absolutely hate this feature on my 12 GT. I have heard removing the wire to the solenoid on the tranny will disable it. Does anyone know if there is anything I should be concerned about if I pull this wire? I don't want an idiot light coming on due to this.

I unplugged my solenoid as soon as I got home from the dealer after buying it. Had 20 miles on the car. it causes no error lights or DTC's unplugging it - message will still display in cluster. I have since flashed my ECM to a 2013 calibration so no longer have skip shift enabled.

Thanks Dan. I will be disconnecting the solenoid wire.

Corvettes have it, and it was the most aggravating thing I've ever had on a manual car. But I'm sure the Mustangs are the same, it was rpm regulated. So, axle-backs won't affect the ship shift unless it's like another post says. You run the engine faster just to hear that beautiful music the GT500's make.
